The weather in Benidorm is among the most desirable on the southern Costa Blanca which tends to be a shade warmer than the north. Add the amazing nightlife and Mediterranean Sea then you have the ideal location. With the glorious weather and infinite things to do it’s no wonder tourists flock here.
For those not familiar with Benidorm, this is a major city on the eastern coastline of Spain. This is one of the top places to pay a visit on the Spanish mainland. This is especially true of Brits who come here in their droves each year.

December is the start of the winter with temperatures dropping to between 13 – 14 Celsius. The temperature at night will seem quite cold if you live there all year round. You can expect the evening temperature to drop to around 9 Celsius. December sees around 5 days of rainfall on average but expect to see a few storms on occasion.
January is the middle of winter and the coldest month in most of Spain. Benidorm is no exception. January sees the temperature drop to around 11 Celsius on average. The average night time temperature will now be around 7 Celsius. January also sees a lot more rainfall than the other months. The precipitation levels are high so expect to see plenty of rainfall on at least 6 days of this month.
February sees the conclusion of winter as the temperature begins to increase again. The monthly average temperature for February is between 12 -13 Celsius during the day. a This drops to around 8 Celsius at night. February sees about half of the rainfall of January. It’s normal to expect around 3 or 4 days of rain during this month.
The weather in Benidorm in March is among the best to be had on the Spanish mainland. Visitors here during this month will enjoy mild temperatures on average and plenty of sunshine. The end of March and first full spring month April see the return of the warmer weather and temperatures rising.
This popular city on the Costa Blanca has an excellent micro-climate. The temperature along the eastern coastline tends to be better than many other areas. The various mountain ranges help to preserve the warm climate you can expect here for most of the year.
Benidorm Weather in March
The temperature in Benidorm in March can hit as high as 19 Celsius. This is especially true at the end of the month as we enter spring. The beginning and middle of the month will yield an average temperature of 14 Celsius. The low during March can see the temperature fall to a chilly 7 Celsius. This will seem quite cold if you live in Benidorm or the sunny Costa Blanca all year but not so bad if you visit from further north.
With most of the winter now behind the temperature will increase until the end of August. You may well see a few days towards the end of the month which are warm enough for the beach. With the temperature increasing each month the beaches will see more activity.
The sea temperature in Benidorm in March is a chilly 15 Celsius. This is the yearly low which March shares with January and February. This will seem quite cold for most to consider going for a swim. Those who are from much colder climates may brave the temperature but most will not. This is a great resource if you want to know the current temperatures of the sea or for future months.
The sea will continue to warm through the months of April until August and peak at 25 Celsius. The temperature will then drop each month before arriving at it’s yearly low again at the start of the year.
March on average in Benidorm usually yields 6 or 7 days of rainfall. More rain arrives during March than any of the winter months. Although there are quite a few rainy days, the precipitation is not as much as one would expect. Other months see far fewer days of rain but much higher precipitation levels.
Benidorm has many attractions in around the main city but there are some hidden gems also. One of the best days out is a visit to Algar Waterfalls which is only 15 kilometres from the city centre. You could also pair your day out with a trip to Guadalest for more natural beauty.

- The ocean temperature is still on the cold side at 15 Celsius.
- March sees 7 hours of typical sunshine per day.
- There are an average of 6 – 7 days rainfall during March.
- The daily high temperature now peaks at 19 Celsius.
- This month sees a daily low of 7 Celsius.
Hours of Sunshine
The hours of sunshine in March are usually 7 hours for most of the month. This then increases with the arrival of spring. Each month will see an increase in the number of hours of sunshine until July. July sees on average 12 hours of sunshine per day before the hours decrease again each month. It’s worth mentioning that Levante beach is south facing and will see a touch more sunshine hours.
The weather in Benidorm in the autumn months is generally still hot for the most part. This is especially true for September and October. The evenings begin to feel cooler but the days are generally very warm.
September sees the end of summer as we begin the month but the hot weather will not be ending for a while. The weather in Benidorm in September is generally like August. The average temperature during the day is between 24 – 25 Celsius.
Many days in September will remain over 30 Celsius. The evening temperature is dropping to around 18 – 20 Celsius. There will be around 5 days of rainfall during this month.
- The warmest month in Benidorm is usually August with a daytime temperature average of 26 Celsius.

- October sees the most precipitation although other months have more days of rain.
- December and January see the most days of rainfall. There will likely be at least 10 rainy days.

The weather in Benidorm in October remains good but can be very unpredictable also. This month sees the first significant drop in temperatures after the hot summer. It’s still a great time to visit if we avoid a Gota Fria which we go into detail about below.

Benidorm Weather in October, How Hot Will It Be?
The weather in Benidorm in October sees the outside temperature fall to 20°C on average. This is a decrease of 4 °C from September which is like a summer month. These are still warm conditions with the best of the weather at the start of October. In 2019, the first two weeks saw temperatures between 22 °C – 24 °C. The final two weeks fell to 18 °C – 19 °C.
October still has a warm daytime high of 23 °C but the low falls to 14 °C. This tends to be the sort of outside temperature in the evenings also. The record high for October is 36.2⁰C way back in the 1940’s so expect much warmer temperatures. The coldest temperature on record is 4⁰C. It’s very rare to get single digit temperatures here but we will explain why it’s still possible.
Extreme Weather in October – Gota Fria (Cold Drop)
The eastern coast of the Spanish mainland sometimes experiences a Gota Fria. This weather phenomenon only happens along the eastern coast mainly. This also affects the islands such as Majorca during this month which lie to the east Living an hour south of Benidorm, we can give the best account of what to expect should a Gota Fria arrive. First we will explain why this only happens in this part of Spain and what the conditions are like.
As we mention above, October sees a rapid cooling in temperature after a very hot summer. The cooler air from the Atlantic to the west and Pyrenees Mountains to the north converges with the warm air to the east. This weather phenomenon does not happen every year, in fact, we can go several years without a Gota Fria. In 2019, we got two in the space of a few months although it’s more common in October.
The effects of a Gota Fria can be devastating, the aftermath almost apocalyptic. To the right or further down this page if you are using a mobile device you can see a video of a recent Gota Fria in September. This destructive weather can deliver up to a years rainfall in a few days. You almost always get high winds which often are hurricane strength. Another dangerous element is large hailstones which can be as big as golf balls.
The ocean temperature in October falls again from the 23°C of September to 21°C. This is still a good temperature for the beach and a swim. The beautiful beaches of Levante and Poniente will still be busy on warm days. These are the two main beaches here which stretch for several kilometres.
Rainfall in October
October is another wet month but usually sees less rain than September. This is not always the case though, it really depends on whether Benidorm gets a Gota Fria. The amount of rainy days could be double digits but the average is 8 – 9 days.

- October has 9 hours of sunshine on average per day.
- This is quite a wet month with 8 – 9 days of rainfall.
October sees 8 hours of sunshine each day, a decrease of 1 hour from September. This will continue to drop by an hour for the next two months also. There will not be another increase until March here, around springtime. If you want some extra sunshine head to Levante beach which is south facing and gets more sun.
