The Algarve, Portugal
The Algarve is much cooler than the Canaries but still one of the warmer places in Europe in January. The average daily temperature here is 13 Celsius with a high of 16 Celsius. A low of 7 Celsius is a touch on the cold side but much warmer than northern Europe.
The sea temperature is now 17 Celsius which is also on the chilly side. Much of this popular destination has the same Mediterranean climate as southern Spain. The areas of Portugal that face the Atlantic will be much cooler now.
The beaches in this part of Portugal are incredible with many unique rock formations. There are regular boat tours that take you to remote caves and more amazing coastline.

Lanzarote, Spain
Lanzarote is one of the warmest places in Europe during February along with Fuerteventura. Both are very similar now but Lanzarote during February has more going for it. The daily average temperature is now 18 Celsius with a high of 21 Celsius. February is a colder month like January which sees a daily low of 15 Celsius.
The sea temperature is now at it’s lowest yearly level of 18 Celsius which it will remain until April. February tends to see 3 days of rainfall on average but the precipitation levels are low. The hours of sun are now 7 hours which increase in spring.
Lanzarote is another of the Canaries that boasts magnificent beaches and turquoise sea. There are also several excellent resorts spread across the island. Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and the super Playa Blanca are the top resorts here.
Lanzarote also has it’s share of top attractions both natural and man made. Timanfaya National Park and Cueva de los Verdes are the two best natural attractions. The Cactus Garden and the incredible Underwater Museum (Museo Atlántico) are more top attractions to look out for.

On the Spanish mainland, Malaga is one of the warmest places in Europe in February. The Costa del Sol makes part of the southern coastline of Spain which tends to see the best weather in winter. Tenerife is one of the hottest places in Europe in March and the rest of spring. This super Canary Island attracts the most tourism by far. The average temperature in Tenerife in March is a warm 18 Celsius. The daily high is now 21 Celsius with a low of 15 Celsius.
Tenerife tends to see about 4 days of rain in March, far less than the winter months. During our visit here in 2016, most days saw an average temperature of 20 Celsius or more. The sea temperature remains at it’s lowest yearly level of 19 Celsius.
March is one of the top months to pay a visit to Tenerife. There are more top resorts here than most of the Canary Islands put together. Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje are a few top resorts in the south. The southern resorts also see the warmest of the weather during March. In the northern areas are Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz.
Tenerife is also home to some of the top attractions in the Canary Islands. Loro Parque and Siam Park are popular attractions to enjoy with all the family. The latter is one of the top aqua parks in Spain if not the very best. Those who prefer natural attractions have Teide National Park and Cueva del Viento. Masca Walk and Anaga Mountains provides hikers with great options. There are many great beaches to enjoy such as Las Teresitas among others.

Malta

The Greek Island of Rhodes is another European location that remains warm in March. Weather conditions here are like Malta around this time. The volcanic isles of Cape Verde are a super place to visit if you want hotter weather in March. These tropical islands lie around 1400 kilometres south of the Canaries. Senegal and the African mainland are 570 kilometres or 350 miles to the east.
The temperature of Cape Verde rarely drops below 20 Celsius no matter the time of year. If you plan to visit during March you can expect a daily temperature of 23 Celsius on average. The record high for March is 35.2 Celsius so you will likely see much hotter days than the average suggests. Most of the 10 islands and 9 islets are quite arid due to the lack of rain. There are some exceptions where the humidity and seas mist provide enough precipitation.
Boa Vista is one of the best places to go if you are on a family holiday. Sal gets the vote if you are taking a vacation with your partner. One thing you can be certain of, wherever you go will have magnificent beaches. The sea temperature here in March is lovely and warm at 23 Celsius.

April is a popular month to head south to the Canary Islands for some spring sunshine. The temperatures in this part of the Atlantic are now increasing leading up to summer. Lanzarote is the hottest of the Canaries now with the other major islands also seeing warm temperatures. The islands closest to the western coast of Africa are usually a touch hotter.
Depending on which island you visit, you can expect temperatures between 18 – 20 Celsius. The daily high here can reach at least 24 Celsius throughout the month. If you plan a visit closer to May, that is when the weather is warmer still.
Tourism will be at one of it’s busiest points now, especially among the main islands. The temperature in Tenerife during April will be as cool as it gets across the Canaries. How Warm Are The Balearic Islands in April?
The Balearics may not be as hot as some places but they offer much warmer temperatures than most of Europe. The arrival of spring sees conditions finally begin to warm up after the colder months. Tourism to these islands will also begin to increase, especially to Majorca.

Like all the Caribbean, Barbados remains hot during April. This is because the equator lies only 13° to the south of this popular island. The average temperature now is around 82 F most of the month. This is very much the dry season so you can expect it to be hotter regularly.
This is also a super time to visit when conditions are fantastic. The hurricane season in this part of the world makes some nervous about visiting later in the year. The beautiful island of Fuerteventura is a super location to enjoy a spring holiday. Condition here and across the Canaries are excellent now, close to perfect. This island shares very similar weather to Lanzarote in May which lies 55 miles to the north. These popular destinations closest to the western coast of Africa tend to be a shade warmer now.
The average daily temperature in Fuerteventura during May is 21 Celsius. If you visit now you can expect a high of 24 Celsius and a low of 17 Celsius. This may not seem that hot but the record temperature here for May is 36.7 Celsius. Usually the extreme heat arrives in July and August but May can also get very hot.
Fuerteventura rarely gets any rainfall during this month, the odd day at best. The sea temperature increases to 19-20 Celsius, depending on when you visit.
